About Harston
Harston, a village in the South Cambridgeshire valley, is located on the A10 road.
Harston’s history includes a link with author Grahame Greene, who used to stay in the village at Harston House, the home of his uncle, Sir William, who helped to establish the Naval Intelligence Department prior to the second World War. There is another old manor house in the village, of Tudor architecture, known as Tiptoft. The old village mill site has now been converted into office space but still retains some of its original features as well as a river walk and nature reserve.
Harston used to boast an array of coaching inns and public houses, most of which have now disappeared. But a few remain on the A10 itself, including The Queen’s Head.
