About Wendy
The tiny hamlet of Wendy, now perpetually ‘twinned’ with its border village, Shingay, lies on the South Cambridgeshire flatlands approximately 6.5 miles from Royston town. Its south-east border edges nearby Bassingbourn Barracks airfield.
A church stood in the centre of the settlement until its demolition in the 1950’s.
No inn or public house has been recorded in Wendy since the closure of the Windsor Arms in the 1850’s. lington Bury is situated at the head of the street, with St Mary’s church and rectory nestled just below it.motte and bailey castle was erected here, north-west of the church, in the 12th Century. But sadly, nothing of it remains today.
