About Reed
The ancient village of Reed was originally known as the manor of Challers, way back in the days of King Edward the Confessor. Situated approximately 3 miles from Royston, Reed’s location boasts one of the highest chalk ridges in North Hertfordshire.
Despite having a fairly small population, the village has its own primary school, village hall, cricket pitch and pavilion and children’s play area as well as the Saxon parish church of St Mary’s and The Cabinet, a 16th Century coaching inn (now a pub and restaurant).
Ancient moats run round a lot of the existing properties in Reed, with similarly dated woods still surrounding the rear of the village, which contribute to some nice walks through the surrounding countryside.
