About Guilden Morden
A village long and narrow in formation, known as ‘polyfocal’, Guilden Morden is situated in south-western Cambridgeshire, where the River Cam forms the boundary with other counties. It is separated from its near neighbour to the east by this stream and perhaps due to its location, is largely untouched by the hand of modern man.
Guilden Morden has a primary school, children’s playground and park, village hall and a couple of pubs, including the King Edward.
The local manor house, possibly Morden Hall, was affected by the famous Peasant’s Revolt of the 14th Century. Morden Hall nowadays, having been sold on by Cambridgeshire Council, is a renovated moated property housing an alpaca farm and stud. a large number of houses of Tudor and Stuart era architecture. Its church, dedicated to St Laurence, dates back to the 13th Century. Amongst a handful of shops and schools, it also has its own village hall, sports pavilion, bowling green, park, pub and education centre. Its population stands at around 1250 people today.
