About Foxton

Situated 7 miles from Cambridge and roughly 6.5 miles from Royston, with its own train station and adjacent position to the busy A10, Foxton can be easily overlooked by travellers on their way through to town or city. Yet its history stretches back to the days of the Iceni tribe and the famous Boudicca, warrior queen. The ransacking and burning of a large Roman villa, situated between Foxton and its nearby neighbour Shepreth, is said to have been carried out by the queen’s uprising on their way through to London.

Foxton still retains a large number of houses of Tudor and Stuart era architecture. Its church, dedicated to St Laurence, dates back to the 13th Century. Amongst a handful of shops and schools, it also has its own village hall, sports pavilion, bowling green, park, pub and education centre. Its population stands at around 1250 people today.
